Ronny Büchner explains: The significance of Microsoft Dynamics 365 for online shops

Growing businesses often face the challenge of their existing IT infrastructure no longer meeting the demands of their current operations. The question then arises whether to expand the existing system architecture. This is a lengthy and costly process that often results in the conclusion: we need to revert to more standard solutions. At this point, companies evaluate various ERP systems and their integration capabilities with existing systems.

Microsoft Dynamics 365, as an established ERP system with excellent interaction capabilities with the Microsoft solution ecosystem and integration with third-party systems, is almost always considered.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 has established itself as such a solution. Steffi, a web designer at ESYON GmbH, sat down with Ronny Büchner, the Managing Director of ESYON GmbH, to discuss the significance of Microsoft Dynamics 365 in e-commerce. As an expert in integrating sales platforms like Shopify and Amazon into Dynamics 365, Ronny Büchner offers insights into the advantages of this solution.

Ronny is passionate about delivering efficient and innovative business solutions that meet his clients' specific needs. As a specialist in seamlessly connecting sales platforms like Shopify and Amazon, he provides in-depth insights into the use and benefits of Dynamics 365 for e-commerce.

Steffi: Hi Ronny, thank you for taking the time. We want to talk about Microsoft Dynamics 365 today. To start with, could you simply explain Dynamics 365 to me? As if I were 5 years old?

Ronny (laughs): Hello Steffi, that's a good start! Let's get started right away: Imagine you have a company with 100 employees. There are various departments and processes, many customers and suppliers who may have production, operate a service business or sell products.

These must work together efficiently. If this does not happen, bottlenecks or delayed orders can occur, which can lead to customer dissatisfaction and loss of sales. That is why ERP systems (Enterprise Resource Planning) support these processes. At ESYON, we look particularly at the order-to-cash process. This involves a customer expressing a need. In order to meet this need, the desired product must be procured or produced for the customer.

This chain can become quite complex and ends when the customer is satisfied with their product, the money has been received and the business case is closed. Microsoft offers such an ERP system called Microsoft Dynamics 365.

Steffi: You explained that well! And how does Dynamics 365 specifically support companies that run an online shop?

Ronny: Microsoft Dynamics 365 is an incredibly powerful ERP system. This means it offers a wide range of features to represent the business model of any retailer or manufacturer. This enables a relatively quick implementation of Dynamics 365 without requiring extensive customization or development work.

In today's business world, processes need to flow seamlessly from this ERP system. Suppliers and customers also want to be integrated effectively. They expect high transparency, excellent service, and fast deliveries at attractive prices.

That’s why ESYON has developed an e-commerce integration based on Microsoft Dynamics 365 to meet these needs.

Steffi: Ronny, you’ve already explained the benefits of integrating Dynamics 365 in e-commerce. Can you give us some specific features that such an integration offers?

Ronny: Sure. Integrating Dynamics 365 in e-commerce provides several features, including automated order processing, real-time inventory management, personalized customer relationship management, and precise business intelligence reporting. These features help businesses streamline their processes and enhance the customer experience.

Steffi: It sounds like Dynamics 365 is a comprehensive tool. How do Shopify and Amazon fit into this?

Ronny: Shopify and Amazon are two of the largest players in the e-commerce market. Many businesses use these platforms to sell their products online. With the Shopify and Amazon connectors from ESYON, you can integrate the functionalities of these shop systems and marketplaces directly into Dynamics 365. This allows for real-time synchronization of orders, customer information, and inventory levels, which significantly boosts efficiency.

Steffi: So, that means ESYON GmbH offers solutions to seamlessly connect these systems? How do companies benefit from this?

Ronny: Exactly, that’s what it means. It’s also about integrated systems, because only through them can business processes be fully digitized. This way, a seamless customer journey between the retailer or manufacturer and the customer is possible. The goal is to digitally support the customer throughout the entire relationship. Before making a purchase, the customer might want to learn about the product’s features, availability, and costs. Even after the purchase, there might be issues like returns or additional purchases that need to be addressed.

Nowadays, it's not just about inventory management and an online shop. By the way, I don’t really like the term “webshop” because, as mentioned, it’s more than just about placing an order. At ESYON, we’ve developed a solution for this that is already successfully implemented with many customers.

Steffi: Ronny, are there specific aspects that companies should keep in mind when using Dynamics 365?

Ronny: Yes, having a clear implementation plan and aligning it with company goals is crucial. It's also important not to overlook the training of employees, as effective use of the system depends on it. Additionally, regularly updating Dynamics 365 and ensuring clean, up-to-date data is essential for making informed business decisions.

Another issue I often see is confusion around Microsoft Dynamics 365. This is because there are two different ERP systems under this name. On one hand, we have Microsoft Dynamics 365, which is divided into various modules like Finance and Supply Chain Management. This product was previously known as Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations or even earlier as Microsoft Dynamics AX.

On the other hand, we have Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, which is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses and was formerly known as NAV or Navision. Why Microsoft makes this distinction remains a mystery, but it can certainly lead to confusion.

Steffi: Thank you for the conversation!

Ronny: You're very welcome. Thank you for your interest and the opportunity to discuss these important tools.
